Sara Running for President, President Duterte Confirms

 President Rodrigo Duterte just confirmed on Saturday that Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio will be running for President. The President told the media that Sara's running mate will be Senator Bong Go, who already filed his CONA under the PDP-Laban, Cusi faction.

Mayor Sara earlier said that she will not be running in a national position because the President will be running for Vice-president. Moreover, she already filed her reelection bid for Mayor in Davao City. However, many are skeptical about her statement since she is leading in the recent surveys. A lot of supporters are urging her to run for the Presidency and certain groups are going around the country to get the support of local politicians. 

Supporters of former Senator Bongbong Marcos will not be happy with this development. They are hoping for a Sara-BBM or Bongbong-Sara tandem, which they believe is a sure win tandem in the 2022 National Elections.

Netizens and other critics were not surprised with the announcement of the President. They already know that it is a tactic of the Duterte's. President Digong also did this strategy when run for the Presidency last 2016.

It is not yet clear if Mayor Sara will leave her Hugpong party and join the PDP-Laban.

Pacquiao Ousted from PDP-Laban, Cusi New Party President

Senator Manny Pacquiao was ousted by Cusi-led faction of PDP-Laban. The position was held vacant during the national assembly last Saturday and member attendees elected Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi as the new President of the party. President Duterte attended the national assembly and led the oath taking of newly elected officers. In his speech, he belittled Senator Pacquiao saying that the Senator knows nothing and only follows the advice of people around him.

Sen Pacquiao Ousted as PDP-Laban President

Secretary Cusi, who is now the party President, claims that their actions are legitimate and within the party's constitution. On the other hand, former party President Koko Pimentel insisted that the national assembly is a farce and illegal. Pimentel told a news media outlet that they will elevate the issue to the Commission on Elections. It is now clear that two factions can't reconcile their differences and all are determined to pursue their plans this coming 2022 Presidential Elections. 

Sen Pimentel supports the possible presidential bid of Manny Pacquiao while the Cusi faction is supporting Mayor Sarah Duterte for President and President Rodrigo Duterte as Vice President. A possible Duterte-Duterte tandem is being pushed by some PDP Laban members, particularly those who support Cusi and the President Duterte.

Philippines Recorded the Highest COVID19 Cases on Good Friday

The highest single-day tally for COVID-19 positives was recorded on Good Friday (April 2, 2021). The Department of Health (DOH) announced that there are 15,310 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, the highest since the pandemic started last year. The surge of positive cases were attributed to the opening of the economy  and the failure of the people to follow minimum health standards.

Out of the 15,310 new cases, 3,709 were backlogs due to system technical issues. The more than 3k cases should be reported last March 31. The DOH also said that there were 17 new deaths and 434 recoveries. 

HOSPITALS IN CRITICAL LEVELS

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 771,497. Some hospitals in the National Capital Region (NCR) and nearby provinces are now in critical level due to the sudden spike of cases. Right now, the country has 153,809 active cases which is equivalent to 19.9% of the total number of reported COVID cases.

SLOW COVID19 VACCINATION

Meanwhile, the government's vaccination program is still moving at a very slow pace compared to other countries in the region. In India, for example, its government were able to administer more than 3.6 million doses of vaccines in a single-day, the highest among countries with active COVID vaccination programs.

ANOTHER ECQ EXTENSION

Local government units in NCR and nearby provinces are now mulling another week of ECQ in the NCR+ to control Covid19 infections. Aid to the affected cities and municipalities is now underway.

Vaccines for Filipinos Enough to get Herd Immunity?

The Philippine government wants to achieve herd immunity by the end of 2021 by ordering at least 148 million doses of vaccines from various pharmaceutical companies.  To achieve herd immunity, at least 70 percent of the population should be vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to Carlito Galvez Jr., the country's vaccine czar,  the bulk of deliveries will start on April.  The government can now start massive vaccination on the 2nd quarter of the year, assuming that there will be no more hurdles in the procurement, delivery, and supply. During this period, they expect that all frontliners and those in the priority list already received their first shot of the vaccine. The supply will come from  Sinovac (China), AstraZeneca, Novavax, Moderna,  Johnson and Johnson (Janssen Pharmaceutical), and the Gamaleya Research Institute (Russia). 

Here's the breakdown of the number of vaccines that were delivered (Q1) and additional vaccine doses for the succeeding quarters:

There will be at least 3,504,800 doses for the 1st quarter.

The Philippines is way behind its Asian neighbors when it comes to the number of people who already got their first vaccine dose. Skeptics are now saying that the government will not be able to achieve herd immunity because of the delays in the procurement of the government. #NasaanangBakuna even became a trending topic in popular social media sites.

New COVID-19 UK Variant Already in PH

The DOH has confirmed the entry of the more contagious COVID19 variant from the UK. A returning Filipino businessman test positive for the B.1.1.7. SARS-CoV-2 variant (UK variant). He arrived on January 7 aboard Emirates Flight No. EK 332 from United Arab Emirates (UAE).  The 29-year old businessman  left the country last December 27 and went to Dubai for business purposes. As part of the existing health protocols, he was tested at the airport and mandated to undergo a 14-day quarantine. 

According to news report, the patient has pneumonia and currently taking medications. Contract tracing is now underway, particularly in Kamuning Quezon City, where the patient is residing. The DOH will also focus its effort in finding the patient's fellow passengers in Emirates Flight No. EK 332.

With the confirmation from the  Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Genome Center (PGC), the Philippine government should be more vigilant in implementing health protocols in airports and close monitoring of other entry points in the country. 

The B.1.1.7. SARS-CoV-2 variant replicates more than 2x, increasing its transmissibility. 

Several countries have already imposed travel ban to travelers from countries with reported Covid19 UK variant. 

President Duterte Calls Congress to Conduct Special Session

President Duterte issued Proclamation No. 1027 calling the Congress to a special session. The President was forced to issue the said proclamation amid the squabble in the House of Representatives. House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano decided, together with his allies, for the early suspension of the budget hearing in the lower house.  The move is seen to derail the assumption of his position by Rep. Lord Allan Velasco come October 14, 2020.  The two admin allies previously forged a term-sharing agreement which was duly signed by both parties. However, Speaker Cayetano said that majority of the congressmen supports his leadership despite the President's advice to honor their agreement. 

The Lower House is now on recess and will only resume its function next month. This could badly affect the timely passage of the National Budget for 2021. The president is worried about the consequences of a delayed budget especially that the country is battling the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

Proclamation #1027 directed the Congress to hold a Special Session on October 13 to October 16' 2020 to allow the resumption of the 2021 National Budget deliberations.

Let us wait and see what will happen in the next few days, particularly about the plans of Speaker Cayetano and his allies.

COVID Deaths of High-Profile BUCOR Inmates Suspicious

Government's key witness against Sen. Leila de Lima died of COVID19 

A recent report that there were several high-profile BUCOR inmates have died due to COVID-19 is highly suspicious. One of them is Jayvee Sebastian, who is a key witness against Senator Leila de Lima. Sebastian was cremated last Saturday at the Panteon de Dasmarinas Public Cemetery in Dasmarinas, Cavite. The death certificate showed that he died of acute myocardial infarction or heart attack related to COVID-19.

Several High-profile Chinese Inmates COVID19 Deaths

Several high-profile Chinese inmates were also among those who allegedly died of COVID-19 while inside the penitentiary. Chinese inmates Zhang Zhu Li, Jimmy Kinsing Hung, Francis Go, Jimmy Yang, Eugene Chua, and Ryan Ong were all cremated due to coronavirus infection. These people have been arrested for drug-related offenses.


The leader of Chinese inmates, Benjamin Marcelo and Amin Imam Buratong are also among the fatalities. Buratong is the operator of the shabu tiangge in Pasig City in 2009.

COVID Deaths at NBP Under Investigation 

The deaths of these inmates have raised questions about the real cause of their deaths. According to reports, an investigation is now being conducted to get the real story about this COVID-19 DEATHS. The police investigator, who declined to be named, was alarmed about how BUCOR handled the inmates' deaths. One issue is possible body-switching since they were immediately cremated. Cadavers of COVID patients must be cremated within 24 hours based on current health protocols.


The BUCOR'S silence on these COVID19 deaths has raised more questions. The inmates were convicted for drug related crimes so they have the money and connections. Some netizens said that fake-deaths could be possible. Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Menardo Gueverra had ordered BuCor chief Gerald Bantag to explain the alleged deaths of high-profile prisoners at NBP.

70 Congressmen Who Voted No to ABS-CBN Franchise

ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal Rejected by 70 Congressmen

After 13 hearings, congress has decided to reject ABS-CBN's franchise renewal application. While many expect the unfavorable decision, the number of congressmen who voted against is quite a big number. Out of the 85 member of the legislative franchise committee, 70 members rejected the application and only 11 members favored the media's franchise renewal.

In its report, the committee's TWG enumerated several violations of ABS-CBN. Among them were the network's alleged failure to pay correct taxes, non-regularization of employees, issuance of PDR's, AMCARA issue, unauthorized digital services which include TV PLUS Box, and citizenship of Lopez. The findings were contained in the 40 page report by the TWG, which is available online.

IATF Approves Motorcycle Backride, But What?

Starting July 10, backride in motorcycles will now be allowed in GCQ (General Community Quarantine) and MGCQ (Modified General Community Quarantine) areas. The IATF has yet to issue a comprehensive guideline about the new policy but already reiterated that it will only allow husband, wife, or living-in partner as backride. Other members of the family are not yet allowed even if they reside in the same home. According to Spokesperson Harry Roque, couples should present a copy of their marriage certificate or ID's for living-in partners.

While this is a positive development, netizens were dismayed about the other conditions set by the IATF. According to DILG Sec Ano, motorcycle owners should install a protective barrier that will serve as an effective protection against COVID-19 transmission. The design which was proposed by Governor Yap of Bohol was adopted by the IATF as the standard model or design. The specifications were already posted online so those interested can now have it custom-made for their specific motorcycle units.

If you are a motorcycle owner, would you install this protective barrier on your unit? Is it safe? Is aerodynamics considered in the prototype design? Is this an effective method of protection against COVID-19? Remember, they only allowed married couples or living-in partners. Do we really need more bright people in the government?

Covid-19 ECQ and GCQ Areas After May 15

The IATF on COVID-19 approved Resolution #35  outlining the specific areas to be placed under extended ECQ after May 15, 2020. Also included in the resolution, which is still subject to the approval of President Duterte, are areas and regions that will be put on GCQ or General Community Quarantine.

Meanwhile, the ECQ or GCQ will be lifted in regions that were classified as Low Risk areas.

Winning Senators 2019 Elections: Latest Pulse Asia Survey

If the the election is held this month, almost all senatoriables from the administration ticket will win the 2019 national elections. Most of the HNP Party (Hugpong ng Pagbabago Party) candidates plus senatoriables supporting President Duterte were included in the magic 12. Based on the latest survey of Pulse Asia, only one candidate from Otso Diretso has a good chance of winning a seat in the next Congress. Re-electionist Senator Bam Aquino is the only opposition senator who can grab another seat in the Senate. Senator Cynthia Villar and Senator Grace Poe are statistically tied at number 1 position.

The names of House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas and Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez, which were mentioned before by Pimentel as part of their senatorial lineup, were not included in the list of senatorial candidates. Some supporters are also asking if other popular personalities and government officials, such as ASec Mocha Uson, General Bato dela Rosa, PAO Chief Persida Acosta, and DOJ Sec Aguirre will be part of the Senate lineup for the midterm elections in 2019.

The ruling party is open for coalition with other political parties if they can't complete the slots for the 12 Senators. They also aim for 12-0 for the midterm elections.

Cops in Kian Killing Charged with Murder, Torture

Police Officers Charged with Murder and Torture

The parents of Kian delos Santos filed murder and torture charges against the police officers who are involved in the death of their son. The parents were accompanied by the Public Attorneys Office (PAO) chief Persida Acosta.

Acosta told the media that the wheels of justice will turn now and run its course after filig the charges Friday. She also hoped that the case will be resolved by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for not more than 60 days after the filing.

4 Police Officers Charged with Murder and Torture

Four police officers were charged with murder and torture. The respondents were Chief Inspector Amor Cerillo, the relieved commander of Caloocan City Police Community Precinct 7; Police Officer (PO) 3 Arnel Oares; PO1 Jerwin Cruz; and PO1 Jeremias Pereda.

The involved police officers violated Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) and Republic Act 9745, also known as the Anti-Torture Law. They were charged for torturing a minor resulting to death, which falls under Section 4(A-1) and (A-14), and Section 14(1) and (5) of the said law.

Kian Intentionally Killed

The autopsy report of the PAO revealed that Kian, an alleged drug runner, was shot at the back lying down. Witnesses also testified that Kian delos Santos did not fought back or tried to escape as alleged by the arresting police officers. The autopsy report also highlighted the intent of the gunmen, which is to kill the suspect by shooting him in critical areas of his body.

Drug War's Collateral Damage

A senate investigation is also being conducted about the incident, which some lawmakers said is a clear example of EJK. Caloocan police officials told the senators during the hearing that they only based their accusations on posts and messages from social media. The President's drug war has been marred by large number of deaths and killings of minor suspects.

President Duterte's Updated Drug List

President Rodrigo Duterte won't stop his campaign against illegal drugs. Just recently, he showed an updated list of people who are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade. The list include the names of incumbent and retired local government officials, lawmakers, policemen and military personnel, people in the judiciary department, and other big names involve in the drug trade.

The President said that the list was re-validated by the police and concerned agencies. Those people in the updated drug list will be investigated by proper authorities and will be charge accordingly.

Caught on Video: Possible Drug Swallowed by Vice Mayor Parojinog During Raid

A new video is now circulating online about the attempt of Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog to conceal a possible evidence against her. 

In her previous media interview, she claimed that the raiding team headed by Chief Inspector Jovi Espenido planted all the evidences gathered in her house in Ozamiz City. She also claimed that the police cut the CCTV during the search and stole the hard drive. She also appealed to President Duterte to initiate an inquiry about the simultaneous serving of search warrants against her family.

The Parojinogs are included in the drug list of the President and known for their links with convicted drugs lords in the Bilibid prison.

The raid resulted in the deaths of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr, her mother, brother, and a number of barangay civilian volunteers. These volunteers acted as private guards to the Parojinogs according to the local police. 

In the video clip, Vice Mayor Nova Parojinog attempted to hide a packet of white substance from the police officers while they are searching her room. When police officers is searching her belongings, she immediately get something from a bag and hid it in her hand. She even swallowed a small object, which could be a sachet containing a powder substance (which could be a small pack of drug), a sim card, or other possible evidence against her.

President Duterte's SWS Record High Survey Rating

The recent survey conducted by the Social Weather Station (SWS) showed that majority of Filipinos still support President Rodrigo Duterte. The survey, which was conducted from June 23 to 26, revealed that almost 8 in 10 or 78% of Filipino adults expressed approval of Duterte's performance. This is the highest rating the President got during his first year presidency. His net satisfaction rating is +66 which is very good. The survey result is a personal record high for the President. 

This SWS survey will also boost the government's claim that the country is better under the current administration. Despite the issues on war on drugs, Marawi siege, corruption, traffic, and poverty, the President is still popular among Filipinos.  

But what are his gains and loses in this particular survey. What are the areas where his approval increased and the social class where he gained a favorable rating? Here are some Quick Facts about the SWS Survey on President Duterte's Performance:

Net satisfaction rating: “very good” +66

Number of respondents: 1,200

Comparison with Last SWS Survey

The President gained additional 3 points in the latest survey as compared to his rating last March, which is +63 with 75 percent net satisfaction rating.

A major change in his rating is the Visayas and balance Luzon areas. But his rating dip in the Mindanao region.

Visayas: increased to 11 points to an “excellent” +73 (83 percent satisfied, 10 percent dissatisfied) 

Rating last survey: +62 (75 percent satisfied, 12 percent dissatisfied)

Balance Luzon: increased by 7 points but stayed “very good” at +58 (73 percent satisfied, 15 percent dissatisfied)

Rating last survey: +51 (68 percent satisfied, 17 percent dissatisfied)

Mindanao: fell to 12 points but still rated as “excellent” at +75 (83 percent satisfied, eight percent dissatisfied)

Rating last survey: +87 (89 percent satisfied, three percent dissatisfied)

Metro Manila: dropped at +63 but remained in “very good” level (77 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied)

Rating last survey: +64 (76 percent satisfied, 12 percent dissatisfied)  

Very Good Rating in Socioeconomic Classes 

The President's rating under socioeconomic classes remained very good. He got the highest rating among class E at +67, which increased to seven points from +60 last survey. He is also popular among class ABC. He got +59, which is 3 percent higher than his previous rating for this class. For class D respondents, President Duterte got +66, a 2 percent increase from the previous survey.  

PRD's approval among men and women respondents stayed at "very good" rating. College graduates rated him "excellent" at +76, while those who are high school graduates, elementary school graduates and those who did not finished elementary gave him "very good" rating.

The SWS survey has sampling error margins of plus or minus 3 percentage points for national percentages, and plus or minus 6 percentage points for each region.

1M Crowd Expected at Pro-Duterte Grand Rally on Feb 25

EDSA Revolution Anniversary

Pro-Duterte supporters will again unite to show their support to President Duterte. They will be staging a peace rally/gathering on February 25. The rally will be held at the Quirino Grandstand, the same spot where they showed full support to the candidacy of the then Mayor Duterte. Interior Undersecretary John Castriciones, who is also the secretary general of the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Coordinating Council (MRRD-NECC), said in an interview that various groups supporting Mr. Duterte and members of different religious communities would converge on Rizal Park for the two-day event. Organizers have no target figure for the number of people attending the rally but they are optimistic that they can get an attendance of 1 million.

Castriciones also said that the gathering is a show of support to the government's campaign against the evils of society like illegal drugs, corruption and poverty.

Social Media Supporters Urge People to Join  

Avid supporters of the President are already disseminating information about the said event tomorrow. Sass Rogando Sasot, a known Duterte supporter asks her followers to go to the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta on February 25. The event will start at 5pm. She even posted a video encouraging people to come and participate in the event. Right now, the post has been shared and liked by thousands of her followers. The video has been viewed by almost 700,000 people.

Aside from the Manila gathering, there will be several events or rallies that will be held in various parts of the country. Some big events are expected in the Visayas and Mindanao areas, particularly in Davao. A lot of Duterte supporters abroad will also held similar events on the same day. EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary

February 25, 2017 is the 31st anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution but the celebration will be simple according to the Palace. The usual salubong will not be performed. Instead, a program will be held at Camp Crame that will be attended by Sec Medialdea and other government officials. Meanwhile, President Duterte will be at Davao City to attend to an important event for the Bangsamoro Transition Commission.

A rally will also be held at EDSA Shrine. Prominent people, including former President Fidel Ramos, former Sen Rene Saguisag and martial law survivor Etta Rosales, have confirmed their attendance.
